Abstract

The fate of dredge material disposed of at open water sites by hopper dredgers has significant ecological and engineering importance. The suitability of a site for continued or proposed new disposal of dredged material can only be considered if the processes which occur in both the short-term and long-term with respect to the dispersal of the material are well understood. A computational model was developed to predict the movement of the plume of material put into suspension during the disposal process. The objective of the work was to create an economic means of predicting the dispersion of disposed dredged material in tidal waters.
