Abstract
In many coastal situations, refraction and diffraction are of equal importance in determining inshore wave conditions. Models exist which are able to describe each process separately, but an attempt to combine both has not been made. This report describes a modified version (OUTRAY II) of the wave refraction model currently in use at Hydraulics Research Ltd. Modifications, including diffraction calculations, are based on the Sommerfeld solution, which reduces a groyne or breakwater to a simple, semi-infinite straight line.
