Abstract

To improve and extend the existing practical knowledge on dispersal an extensive field exercise was udnertaken in cooperation with the Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority in June 1985. The objectives were: (1) To investigate the feasibility of various instrumentation (in particular high resoliton sonar) to monirto the short term dispersal process of dumped dredged material. (2) To determine the concentrations of certain heavy metals attached to the sediments in the hoppers of the dredgers and on he bed of the diposal site. (3) To measure the density structure and particle size distribution of the dredged material during the dredging operation.
