Abstract

HR Wallingford are studying methods of improving the assessment of flood discharge on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. This report describes the development of a technique for measuring flow velocity, which uses the principle of a deflecting vane and can be interrogated after the passage of a flood event. The instrument is principally designed for use on the flood plain. The report also reviews velocity and flow measurement techniques which provide an alternative to the more commonly accepted methods.
