Abstract
This report contains a review of field data collected in the coastal zone, including measurements of sediment transport and sea bed evolution. Purely hydrodynamic experiments are omitted, as are those involving mud or gravel. The report was commissioned by the UK Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) as part of the Flood Defence Research Programme. The aim of the review is to assess whether new data is needed for validation of medium scale coastal numerical models, or whether existing data is sufficient. This unrestricted subject area review is intended to be of use to any engineer or scientist interested in coastal sand transport.
