Abstract

This report describes findings from the first stage of a project to develop integrated irrigation and drainage management methods incorporating controlled drainage, which has potential to sustain agricultural production and livelihoods in conditions of reduced water availability. Activities comprising the first stage of the study included a literature review, an assessment of the potential and constraints to the introduction of controlled drainage in the Nile Delta in Egypt, and the initial development of a tool to predict the impacts of different controlled drainage strategies.
