Gender-sensitive irrigation design: gender issues in smallholder irrigation rehabilitation - cases from South Africa - Part 4

Chancellor, F. and O'Neill, D. (1999) Gender-sensitive irrigation design: gender issues in smallholder irrigation rehabilitation - cases from South Africa - Part 4. Project Report. HR Wallingford Ltd.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve southern African smallholder irrigation through greater gender-sensitivity in design and operation. For the purposes of this study, the term 'design' has been used in a broad sense including various aspects of planning. This Guidance synthesises the lessons learned from irrigators and agencies who assisted the study. The associated reports (Parts 2-6) give an account of the work undertaken and are the basis on which the Guidance stands.
