Abstract

The degradation caused by instream and off channel gravel mining and its resultant impact on bridges is investigated. Three case studies in California are utilized to illustrate the cost of fixing bridges impacted by channel bed degradation. Revisions to California regulations are suggested to increase awareness and decrease taxpayer costs.
