Abstract
This report reviews the coastline between Selsey Bill and Portland Bill on the south coast of England. In it are described the various natural and man-made processes which affect the behaviour of this particular stretch of Britain's shoreline. The report includes a description of the major coastal defences, areas of erosion and accretion and various other aspects of beach development. Stretches of coastline which for coastal engineering purposes can be treated as independent or semi-dependent cells are also identified. This is the fifth report of a series, which Hydraulics Research are carrying out for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
