Abstract

This three-year research project has been undertaken to establish the conditions under which fluid mud is created, to develop a general theory describing its motion for incorporation in a mud transport model, to test hypotheses on its formation and transport in dredged navigation channels including the development and field trials of a fluid mud meter, and to explore measures designed to minimise channel siltation attribute to fluid mud. The present report describes the experiments carried out to investigate means of preventing fluid mud inflow to dredged channels.
