Experiments on alluvial friction of sand-silt mixtures - as Bassi Ingegnere Civile

Experiments are described in which the alluvial friction was measured for steady state flows over sediments consisting of sand silt mixtures with varying proportions of silt. The results are analysed in term of existing theories for alluvial friction of sand beds to determine if these theories need to be adjusted if silt concentrations up to 3000ppm are present. The results show that the presence of the silt has no discernible effect on the alluvial friction under steady state conditions. Comments are made on the predictions of the alluvial friction theories used.
