Permeable pavements

Hollinrake, P. (1991) Permeable pavements. Technical Report. HR Wallingford.

Abstract

A literature search, funded by the Department of the Environment, was made which reviewed the available literature concerning the structural and hydrological characteristics of different types of permeable pavement. New commercial, industrial or residential developments in a catchment have the effect of increasing the volume and rate of storm run-off and can overload the existing sewerage system. Provision of new interceptor sewers and extra treatment capacity is very costly. A developer may therefore me required to restrict the rate of run-off entering an existing public sewer from the new site. This can be achieved by the use of detention tanks within the site but these can again be costly and may occupy valuable land.
