Waller, M. and Dearnaley, M.P. (1993) Estuary regime - Part 1: Numerical modelling. Technical Report. HR Wallingford.
The aim of this research is to provide engineers with an improved method of predicting the long term evolutionary effects of significant engineering changes in estuaries. Two separate forms of one dimensional analytical models were initially investigated for this work. Of these, the Reflected Wave Model is described in detail and was tested for four separate estuaries. A study of the model properties was undertaken, and it was concluded that a more complex iterative model was required for this study. SALMON-Q, which is a development of the HR Wallingford TIDEWAY-1D model was selected. This gave satisfactory results for the Thames, the Nene, the Parret and the Dee. The REGIME modelling technique was then developed as a predictive tool for estuarine morphological evolution.
