Abstract
A review is made of literature on cavitation in large hydraulic structures in order to summarise the present state of knowledge, provide guidance to designers, and identify areas requiring further research. The topics covered include: (1) mechanism of cavity formation and collapse; (2) cavitation at surface irregularities, gat slots, and energy dissipators; use of aerators for preventing cavitation damage; (5) modelling of cavitation and aeration; (6) research needs.
