Abstract

This report deals with the results obtained from a field study of thermal surface plume discharging onto a tidal current. Buoyant surface plumes in unsteady tidal current are frequently observed at many UK Power Plants, but studies of their spreads are very few. Numerical simulations require calibration using field or laboratory data. Physical simulations, on the other hand, provide simplified analysis, valuable for preliminary studies, and also give a better understanding of mixing processes.
