Abstract

This report describes the results of a comprehensive test programme that was carried out at HR Wallingford on gully gratings and kerb inlets. The test programme investigated the effects on the flow collection efficiency of gully gratings. The analysis of the results led to the development of a new general design method for predicting the hydraulic performance of gully gratings taking into account the hydraulic properties of the channel and the geometric properties of the grating. The method was validated by comparing its predictions with flow data for a range of manufactured gratings.
