Cooper, A. (1985) An assessment of the uses of the ICL DAP for estuary modelling. Technical Report. Hydraulics Research Wallingford.
In the past the applications of numerical modelling techniques to predict the flow of water and the movement of sediment and pollution in estuaries and coastal waters have often been limited by the excessive cost of using a grid size fine enough to resolve the shoreline, changes in bed levels and flow patterns. The development of more powerful computers has opened the way to obtain greater resolution in computer modelling than hitherto and, in particular, the ICL Distributed Array Processor (DAP) at Hydraulics Research Ltd is ideally suited to such detailed tidal computations.
